A very mad idea to stay here for the weekend considering the 500 mile round-trip but well worth it. There’s a rule of thumb in our house ‘if it starts with a W, it’s a good’un’, and Wortham did not disappoint.
From first stepping over the threshold to the final closing of the door it was a great few days and a brilliant Landmark. Fabulous kitchen, spectacular hall, two lovely sitting rooms, and bedrooms and bathrooms a-plenty; of course the kids preferred the bleak little attic to any of these. There’s much too much to describe in any detail, you really have to see it for yourself.
On arrival, the unexpected proximity of the farm and outbuildings was a bit of a concern. The parking arrangements are woeful considering the vastness of the property and apparently the last stretch of the track can become a quagmire in bad weather. We, however, enjoyed superb weather, the track was fine and the folk from the farm an absolute joy as neighbours - extremely friendly and courteous.
Not venturing too far (one brief excursion on the moor followed by a swift pint), can’t provide much info about things to do but, to be honest, in the space of a weekend the house and gardens offer sufficient diversion.
A stack of logs are kept at the building (leave cash on departure) so there’s no need to stint on the fires, although lighting the fire in the small sitting room produces a wonderful kippering effect on the inhabitants.
Wortham manner is a testament to everything that is good about Landmark - a credit to the organisation and a great place to stay.
