Another Landmark for which, unfortunately, the photos have been lost. Visiting for the weekend of bonfire night following a series of massive floods throughout the Midlands we were a touch concerned as we set off to Aston Munslow. The verges of the little lane up to the house were running like streams and the fields around were soaking but the White House in it’s elevated position was pretty much unaffected.
The house is superb. The variety of rooms and their higgledy-piggledy layout make this large house seem more cottage-like in scale and very welcoming. There was ample space for our ‘full house’ of visitors with room both to get together and just as importantly have some space when necessary.
Most of our time was spent in and around the Landmark and I can imagine that in a hot summer week you wouldn’t wander too far from home. The pub at the bottom of the lane (Swan?) was poor for both food and drink and proved rather a disappointment but this just meant that we had more time to enjoy the house and gardens. Much was consumed during our stay and the White House provided the perfect backdrop in which to undertake the task.
We brought provisions with us, however, there is a small shop at a nearby garage that supplied essentials and fuel. The wider area has many nice little towns and villages with pubs and restaurants that are worth a try.
This Landmark is one of my personal favourites.
