Another property that we had wanted to visit for some time, the West Blockhouse experience began on a wet and windy Monday. The path to the entrance, as well as being about 50m length was treacherously slippy in the conditions. Probably the least enjoyable arrival to date.
Once inside the building reveals what it is really, a big machine - you could be below decks on a battleship. This is emphasised by the cabin-like bedrooms and the impressive living space that might be the state room of some 18th Century Man-O-War.
Furnishing the living quarters were the two biggest sofas anyone had seen in a Landmark - great for ligging about on. Unfortunately, windows were set too high to get a comfortable sea view but the panoramic vista from the roof was quite splendid.
The coastal path works its tortuous way around to Dale village where we discovered that the pub didn’t open at lunchtime but the beach was OK to give the dogs a run.
There is stunning coastal scenery all around the area and some nice footpaths. There’s also a lot of geology going on and a bit of research can help reveal some interesting rock formations.
We were fully provisioned upon our arrival so can’t make any suggestions for where to get your stuff.
