Second largest – and second least efficient fireplace we have encountered to date. If you don’t want to keel over with smoke asphyxiation make sure there’s a draught.

This was the first leg of a triple Landmark holiday and unfortunately we were subject to some dreadful weather.  Perhaps if everything had been less wet and two of the four hadn’t come down with colds, my memories of the place might be somewhat fonder.

Week St Mary does not have much to offer the visitor except a good Post Office with general provisions and fuel.  The pub is poor - not worth the walk up the hill and there is a peculiar internment camp masquerading as a caravan site across the square.

Despite the lack of flesh-pots in the local environment there’s quite a bit to see in the wider area and some excellent beaches within a ten to fifteen minute drive. Cliff paths are bracing - real energy-sappers but about the best choice for walking.

Don’t be conned by the old chap who comes around selling meat from the back of his van (possibly not allowed anymore) - the only rump that steak had ever seen was mine on the way out!
