All the ingredients came together at Saddell House and the result was another of those weeks that only seem to happen at Landmarks.

Firstly, the house.  It’s big but not overwhelming.  Eleven of us filled it comfortably and allowed everyone some space, despite a bit of spare sleeping capacity more adults would have been a squeeze. LT have got the blend of “Upstairs” and “Downstairs” just right here, feeling equally at ease in scruffs or best bib and tucker.

Pot luck with the weather meant planning was impossible - just take what comes and make the best of it - seemed like the right thing to do. If you’re prepared for anything you’ll be fine, if not you’re prepared for anything you’ll be fine too - and you’ll have plenty of stories to recant into the bargain.

The bay is quite isolated (by foot) and it was an adventure to explore the coastal plain.  Seals were in abundance and appeared to take the intrusion of a few walkers into their patch without much concern.  Progress through the coastal terrain is not easy and it would be wise not to expect too much in the way of miles per hour.

I liked Campbeltown; neat, compact and with everything you need to support body and soul. Machrihanish, across the peninsula, has a beach and coast that is vast, interesting, and the day we visited very wild; just the day to go there (unless you’re a golfer).

The bothy was the venue for a legendary night - we wont have been the first to experience this, and I’m sure we wont be the last.
