An excellent location for a pre-Christmas break with friends and family, made even more festive by unexpected visits from more friends and family who “just happened to passing”.  The Old Parsonage is very well suited to this sort of thing with it’s comforting wood paneled rooms, big fire and convenient local pubs.

The weather was bitterly cold during the week which made the brisk walk into Oxford a useful way to get warmed up.  Once in Oxford there is a mass of things to do, far more than we could tackle in the week.  It’s tempting to try to do too much but we soon settled into a comfortable routine of museums, Christmas shopping and pubs.

Iffley has three pubs, of which the closest, The Prince of Wales with a cosy atmosphere, was probably the best, certainly for drinking, .  The village shop and post office carries essentials but has limited opening hours.  We did a big shop at a close by Tesco on the ring-road, not something I would normally choose to do but necessary in this case. The fire seemed to work best with brickettes which could be bought from the supermarket garage.

The garden is big and I could imagine would be a great place to spend summer days and evenings, next to the river - might have to come back and try it out !
