We tagged a weekend at the Mackintosh Building onto a longer trip to Scotland. The weather wasn’t great and any thoughts of walking were dispelled early in the stay.  Instead we lounged about the flat, made frequent visits to the Royal Hotel next door and perused the antiques shops of Crieff; all-in-all a most pleasant few days.

The true pedigree of the building is not really known but the restoration has avoided the temptation to  “Schmackintosh’ the place. The results mean that the flat has retained the genuine Scottish feel of buildings of this period - you could be nowhere else.

Comrie is small but provides most of what you might need.  We were disappointed to miss out on the tapas restaurant (a constant theme of our travels) which looked very interesting. Dinner at the Royal Hotel was good and the surroundings were pleasant - probably an idea to book at the weekend. Apparently, Comrie is the place to be for New Year.

Nearby Crieff is a good-sized town with plenty of amenities. The Glenturret Distillery is close by; home of Famous Grouse, and is by all accounts, worth a visit.

The mountains appeared fleetingly, only a few miles away - we’ll be back again sometime to conquer them.
