Ironbridge House From Above

Another pre-Christmas getaway in preparation for the festive onslaught and an excellent choice for it.  A previous drive through Ironbridge had identified the town’s potential, a potential that was fully realized during our midweek stay at Ironbridge House.

The Landmark flat itself is fine without being spectacular; some nice touches, including the cast iron range in the sitting room and a lovely big double bedroom.  Inside, the flat seemed to echo much of the historic feeling of the town.

We ate out every night, and every night was different. There are plenty of pubs within walking distance and some good beer on offer, however, I’d recommend giving the Tontine Hotel across the road a miss.  A Thai meal in the restaurant next door was nice and spicy, if a little pricey, and we even ventured to my first vegetarian restaurant too (although the consequences of three essentially sage and onion stuffing based courses have been enough to dissuade me from attempting the experiment again).

There’s bags of industrial history on the doorstep and using the visitor passport (available from the Tourist Information Centre) made it all very reasonably priced.  We parked the car on Monday and it didn’t move again until Friday; exploring everywhere on foot revealed more of Ironbridge than we might otherwise have seen.
